UNDERSTANDING 3D & DIGITAL PRODUCT PACKAGING
3D artists use 3D software, such as Blender, Stager, Maya, and Cinema4D to create fantastic art as well as practical models that can then have artwork applied as a texture or graphic on top of it. Once applied, the 3D model is then rendered in a ray tracing render program to produce photorealistic renditions of the model, with accurate lighting and shadows applied.

In todays practical world, yes. It’s perfectly fine to passionately convey your ideas and visions to partners or investors, but that can only go so far. Eventually, you will need a visualization, and that’s where 3D product packaging can bridge that gap.
Oftentimes, 2 to 4 weeks should be ample time to model and texture any product package you may have in mind. Some variation to that time frame may apply in regards to the complexity of the project.
Generally speaking, specialized design firms that offer this service seem to do so at a range between $10,000 and $50,000. This is NOT what we charge at Haeresis. As with all projects, there is no set price. We want to provide a solution that fits your budget, and often times, after a good discovery session, we can narrow down the most important needs of a client and trim the fat in order to bring the cost to a tenth of what is found on the open market, maybe even less.
We use Blender and ZBrush to create and texture the 3D models. We use Photoshop and Illustrator to create the graphics that are placed on the models.
Basically, it boils down to overhead. With a large firm, considerations have to be made in order to account for office space leases and utilities, company wide payroll, bonuses, etc. With a smaller studio like Haeresis, many of those same considerations, as valid as they may be, are minimalized to such a degree that the savings passed on to the client can be quite substantial.
